Ruby Nowell is a real estate broker and owns her own business. She began to suffer from macular degeneration three years ago. "It knocks out my central vision. I have no trouble getting around but I have trouble reading."
"The Commission for the Blind sent out a counselor to interview me. He told me a video magnifier low vision aid would help me keep up with my business. They bought it for me and helped me set it up," she said.
"The product helps me so much with my business. I use it to read fine print, contracts, any legal papers. I write under it alot and sign checks. I can write under it like nobody's business - it's the most wonderful thing I've ever seen," she said.
Ms. Nowell also uses this assistive technology to look at personal mail such as Medicare letters and prescription bottles. "I can't read those bottles with magnifying glasses."
"Some days my eyes are better than others. The CCTV is a wonderful help to me - I can pop any material under it. It's my eyes," she added.
At 70 years of age, Ms. Nowell isn't letting "not seeing as well as I used to" keep her from being active, independent and productive.
The above quotations were taken from a true interview with CCTV user, Ruby Nowell. However, the photographic representation is not that of Ms. Nowell.
